THANKSGIVING
This year Thanksgiving is different for me than in the previous years. Early in the morning of June 12, 2006, I suffered an AORTIC DISSECTION. It changed my life for the rest of my life. I can do no yard work, mow my lawn, play Tennis, Jog, or lift any heavy load. I never realized how wonderful it was to go out and do simple things such as trimming your shrubs, working in the yard.
This year I am thankful that God has allowed me to travel, drive, preach, do my office work, and keep up with the Missionaries and Mission Causes that we help support.
I am on a lot of medicine, twice each day. My life is limited in many ways but God has been so good to me by allowing me to preach and attend the meetings that we have scheduled. I am able to study and do the IMPORTANT THING—PREACH!
As you celebrate Thanksgiving this year there are many reasons to be thankful.
a. Thank God that you can work. It is a blessing to be able to work in your yard or on your job. You will never know what a blessing it is until you are not able.
b. Thank God that you can take part in sports. What a privilege it is to be able to go to the Tennis Court, enter a 5-K or 10-K run, go the Health Center or YMCA, and to get on your Bike for a nice ride.
c. Thank God that you can go to your Church, help in the various programs of the Church, help clean or work when and where it is needed. When you join a Church, ‘Join all of it.’ Many churches offer Youth Camps, organized sports and they need sponsors. It is such a joy to be able to help.
d. Look at your yard, garden, or little jobs that need to be done…and Thank God that you are physically able to do those jobs. This does not seem important until you are unable to do these simple things.
e. I am thanking God that I have such a wonderful wife. WANA. She has so much more work now and she does it without any complaint.
f. I thank God for wonderful children who stand by and do so much of the work that I ought to be doing. Jeannie and Mark have been wonderful to help.
g. Thank God for wonderful friends who have helped in so many ways. Friends have brought food, mowed our yard, and offered to help in any way. They call to ask us what we need. Their calls, cards and visits mean so much, this includes friends from many states.
November 17, I will be 84 years old. God is so good…..84 wonderful years.
He has given us 64 years of happiness together..Wana and I.
Now you know why I will be so thankful this THANKSGIVING season.
